11 August 2021, Bangkok: The COVID-19 situation has a big impact on mangosteen farmers in the South of Thailand as they experience obstacles in bringing in workers and shipping their produce to other parts of the country as well as overseas. Currently, it is the peak period of mangosteen in the South, and there is now an oversupply, resulting in price drops and insufficient buyers.
To help local mangosteen farmers in the South who need urgent assistance, Tops and Central Food Hall under Central Retail has kicked off a new campaign “Happy Farmers” in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Commerce to directly purchase mangosteen from these orchards at 100 baht for 4kg. Customers can order the mangosteen offline via 24 Tops market and Central Food Hall in Bangkok and vicinity, and online at www.tops.co.th, or via Grab under Tops Select, beginning from August 12, 2021 (limited availability).
The mangosteen under the Happy Farmers project is high-quality and fresh from mangosteen orchards in the South of Thailand, grown with care and guaranteed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Customers can enjoy high-quality and delicious mangosteen at reasonable prices while also offering help to farmers in the South of Thailand amidst this crisis, bringing smiles and happiness to them under the concept “Happy Customers, Happy Farmers”. Throughout 2021, Tops aims to directly purchase 120 tons of mangosteen from Southern farmers.
